Icy conditions throughout the Heart of Virginia have prompted closures in area schools and organizations in Prince Edward, Cumberland and Buckingham.
Prince Edward County Public Schools closed schools Tuesday, according to an announcement on the division’s social media page.
“Because of icy road conditions, Prince Edward County Public Schools will be closed today,” the post cited.
Buckingham County Public Schools announced similar closings of the division’s public schools, citing icy roads in the area.
Cumberland County Public Schools, first citing a two-hour delay, announced on social media that schools would also be closed Tuesday.
“With a 2 hour delay, some buses begin routes at 8:00 a.m.,” the post cited. “We were hoping that temperatures and roads would be in a better place by now; however, that is not the case. Please be safe. Thankfully, we will experience a heat wave this afternoon.”
Officials from the Piedmont Senior Resources Area Agency on Aging announced Tuesday that its friendship cafes in Buckingham and Lunenburg are closed and home delivered meal routes in Buckingham and Lunenburg counties will operate on a two hour delay.
