RICHMOND — Virginia Secretary of Transportation Aubrey Layne announced Dec. 1 the delayed opening of the 64 Express Lanes in Norfolk.
“The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) had planned to open the Express Lanes in December,” officials said in the release. “However, the opening has been delayed in order to complete additional testing of electronic tolling equipment.”
According to the release, the 64 Express Lanes are designed to help make better use of the existing highway capacity. They will provide choices for motorists who want more reliable travel times while also relieving congestion in the free general purpose lanes.
