Eugene Clyde Mason, Jr., 59, of Red House Road, Rustburg, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2017 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Alexandria, Va., on Jan. 30, 1958, a son of the late Betty Jo Hepburn and Eugene Clyde Mason, Sr., and his “mother”, Betty Varner Mason of Pamplin.

Eugene “Sportnt” was an avid football fan and coin collector. He was a 1977 graduate of Appomattox County High School. “Sportnt” adored the love of his life “Sassy” his Bichon Poodle and was crazy about his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his daughter, Angela LeGrand Tyree and husband, Randy; three grandchildren, Brooklyn, William, and Raegan; his longtime girlfriend, Cindy Younger and her son whom he loved as his own, Brandon both of Lynchburg; his only living uncle Donald and Betty Mason of Broad Run; four sisters, Deborah Smith-Humbles and Paul of Appomattox, Lynn Clements and Larry of Rice, Crystle Powers of Scottsburg, and Diane Michelle Garton Ross and Olaf of La.; three brothers, Richard E. Nelson and fiancé, Kathy of Montpelier, Michael Anthony Mason of Concord, and David Gene Mason and Angela of Appomattox; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life service will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Heart of Worship Ministries, 254 Plain Run Road, Appomattox.
