The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) is now recruiting for its Mechatronics Level 1 and Welding@ SVHEC programs. Classes for both hands-on training programs will begin spring 2018. To begin the enrollment process for mechatronics, individuals should register to attend an upcoming information session on Jan. 9 at 10 a.m., Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. or Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. Welding@SVHEC information sessions will begin Jan. 30 or by appointment.
Mechatronics covers a wide range of topics including electrical components, pneumatic systems and Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs), and prepares trainees to quickly identify and correct malfunctions with automated equipment. Training leads to the Siemens Level 1 Mechatronics Certification, and prepares individuals for careers such as machine operator, industrial maintenance technician, and electrician.
Welding@SVHEC is a 10-month, hands-on training program providing instruction in MIG, TIG, Stick, and Pipe welding. Successful trainees have opportunities to become NCCER certified welders.
Financial assistance for both programs is available. Qualified individuals may be eligible for assistance for up to two-thirds of the cost of training. For more information, or to reserve a spot at one of the upcoming information sessions contact Scarlett Brandon, SoVA CME Program/Marketing Coordinator at 572-5473 or email scarlettbrandon@ svhec.org.
