Several Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC) Christmas traditions took place last week to help usher in the season. In the early evening Thursday at Brown Student Center was a tree lighting and community carol singalong. Later that night was the fourth annual Lighting of Venable Hall. That event featured a poetry reading, performances by The Acousticals, a brief speech from President Dr. Larry Stimpert, the announcement of the winners of the fraternity and freshman Christmas Lights Competition and the lighting of the hall.
“I think a big part of the small-college experience are these traditions, and this Lighting of Venable Hall is a wonderful tradition,” Stimpert said after the event. “Students come together to make it happen.”
The Venable Hall lighting event was presented by the H-SC Rotaract Club.
