Lending a helping hand

Penny Dorsey, daughter of Troop 567 leader Becky Dorsey, is a freshman at Cumberland County High School and has been in Girl Scouts for 10 years. Penny knew she wanted to do something that would help people in the community for her Silver Award Project. A member of Antioch United Methodist Church, Penny asked the Church Board if it would be OK to place a Buddy Box on the property. The church loved the idea of the project and agreed to put it under the pavilion so that it would be protected during bad weather. The Buddy Box is an honor system box that contains canned food items and nonfood items such as toothpaste, toilet paper and soap for anyone that needs it. Penny and Antioch United Methodist will continue to put items in the box as needed. We commend Penny, along with her troop leader and Antioch United Methodist Church leaders for helping those in the community. “Send “Way to Go!” photos with a description and names to WayToGo@FarmvilleHerald.com.)
