Government at its best

During a special meeting Tuesday, Nov. 22, the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). As reported in the Nov. 24 edition of The Farmville Herald, the MOU indicated that the Prince Edward Department of Social Services will move into the STEPS facility at 100 Industrial Park Road, renovate the former Cradock Terry Shoe Factory, repair the roof of the factory and provide additional space that is ready for businesses to move into — all the while allowing the current STEPS operation to remain at the facility.
This is government at its best and we commend the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors for finding a solution that minimizes the costs to tax payers and maximizes the benefits.
By working together, the MOU will enable expansion of services provided by STEPS, allow the departments remaining in the Prince Edward County Courthouse the additional space they need and provide business space for companies looking to expand or relocate to Prince Edward County.
Wade Bartlett, Prince Edward county administrator said it best, “This alliance is a win-win not only for the board of supervisors and the STEPS Board but a win for the citizens of Prince Edward County.”
We couldn’t agree more. Job well done.
