A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Farmville and Zion Hill roads resulted in one of the vehicle’s gas tanks rupturing Wednesday night.

The incident drew response from the Farmville Volunteer Fire Department, the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police.

Trooper Todd Farris said at the scene the two vehicles involved were at a stoplight, located at the intersection.

Farris said when the light turned green, the driver of a 2016 Subaru vehicle started to lift the brakes when the Subaru was rear ended by a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado truck. The truck’s gas tank, as the result of the accident, ruptured and gasoline leaked from the vehicle, Farris said.

Farmville Fire Department 2nd Lieutenant Travis Finch said the department used pads and other materials to absorb the gasoline.

Finch said the department received the call at 6:56 p.m.

Farris said there were no injuries as a result of the accident.
