Fuqua School’s aviation class visited the Farmville Airport while the International Aerobatic Club provided an exclusive tour by Tony Zorn, of Lyons, Georgia, a friend of the Farmville Chapter 1202 Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). According to a press release, Zorn showed the students differences in the types of planes as well as what a plane must have to perform aerobatics.
“Practice competition took place while the students were at the airfield; so all eyes were to the sky,” officials said in the release. “Morgan Dunnavant, President of the Farmville Chapter 1202 EEA, explained the delay in hearing the engine cut versus seeing the aerobatics of the plane. The students were fascinated to see many planes from all over the country.” Three years ago, the Farmville Chapter 1202 EAA was responsible for bringing the idea and financial support of an aviation class to Fuqua School.
“Today, members continue to teach the hands-on class and have fundraisers to purchase the plane the students are building which is a Zenith 750, all-metal, single-engine airplane,” officials said in the release. “This aviation class is part of Fuqua School’s STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) curriculum.”
Those interested in hearing more about this class or supporting the program are directed to contact Dunnavant or John Melton, head of Fuqua School. Fuqua School and the EAA hope to spark a lifelong interest in flight and careers in aviation.
