Essie Lucille Gunter, 92, of Buckingham, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017 at her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Gunter; father, Robert F. Gunter; mother, Essie B. Gunter; brothers, Robert Gunter, Ernest “Bossie” Gunter; Claggett “Tobe” Gunter; daughter-in-law, Anna T. Gunter; sister, Winnie Gunter and great-granddaughter, Brittany Gunter.

She is survived by her sister, Jean “Betty” Wilkerson; three sons, Charles “Bobby” Gunter of Buckingham, Melvin D. Gunter of Dillwyn and David L. Turner (Cheryl) of Buckingham; five daughters, Sylvia Gunter of Buckingham, Barbara S. Gunter of Buckingham, Mary L. Johns (Ted) of Appomattox; Shelby J. Gunter of Buckingham and Dru Patterson (Chuck) of Buckingham; six grandchildren, Cheryl, Vernon, David, Warren, Lisa and Melvin, Jr.; six great grandchildren, Travis, Josh, Mason, Megan, Abby and Justin; five great, great grandchildren, Peyton, Ryleigh, Kyla, Nathaniel and Stella and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 2 p.m. in Woodland United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn.
