FFA competes at State Convention

Members of the Buckingham Middle School (BMS) Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter competed in several competitions June 26-29 at the 91st State Convention held on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.

“FFA competitions are designed to use knowledge and skills the competitors have learned in their agricultural education courses,” officials said in a press release. “This year, there were three team from the middle school that competed.”

The release cited members spent many hours outside of class practicing and preparing for their contest.

“They did very well representing (BMS),” officials said in the release. “The (BMS) Agricultural Mechanics team placed 12th overall.

According to the release, team members included Hunter Tyson, William Martin, Francisco Palacios and Timothy Smith. Andrew Schmitt and Sherry Dorrier coached the team.  

“(BMS) members also competed in the Small Animal Care contest and Plant Science,” officials said in the release. “The Small Animal Care team placed 19th overall.”

The release cited team members included Connor Bohanon, Adreah True, Bryan Bartlett and Noah Tubbs.  

“The Plant Science team placed ninth overall. The team consisted of Alana Ballowe, Trenton Snoddy, Andrew Dragovich and Cadence Campbell,” officials said in the release. “Both teams were coached by Sherry Dorrier.”

The BMS FFA chapter was also recognized with the Superior Chapter Award.
