VIRGINIA CHILDREN’S BOOK FESTIVAL FUNDRAISER, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. at Charley’s Waterfront Cafe, Farmville. 10 percent of the day’s profits benefit the Virginia Children’s Book Festival (VCBF). Open to the public.

FIRST LIBERTY BAPTIST CHURCH, DILLWYN 8:30 a.m., presents
“Back to Basic Training Man Up 101.” Pastor John Bates, facilitator, Calvary Baptist Church, in Burkeville. Breakfast and lunch provided.

FALL STEW AND SALE, 10 a.m. at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Route 45. Stew, bake sale, book sale, fabric sale and quilt raffle. Stew ready to eat around noon. Cash only.

DOG WALK, 10 a.m. beginning at the Lee’s Headquarters pull off. All dogs must be on a leash.

MISSIONARY DAY, 3 p.m. for the Missionary’s of New Bethel Baptist Church, 14167 Farmville Road, Meherrin. The Rev. Dr. Sarah Coleman of Union Baptist Church, Crewe, will be the guest speaker along with her choir and congregation. Everyone is welcome.

FALL WATERWAYS CLEANUP, 9 a.m. by joining the Friends of the Appomattox River. Meet at the Wilck’s Lake boat ramp for paperwork, assignments, and tool distribution. Rain date is Oct. 28.

FALL FOR TWIN LAKES FESTIVAL, noon. There will be carnival games, a bounce house, pumpkin decorating, trick or treating in the campground, a hayride and more. Costumes are encouraged. For more information, please contact the Park Office at (434) 392-3435.

LIGHT OF UNITY FESTIVAL, at Farmville-Prince Edward County Library to celebrate the 200th birthday of Bahá’u’lláh.

WORSHIP SERVICE, 2:30-3:30 p.m. of the Heirs of the Living Water, LLC at Farmville Rehabilitation and Health Center.

GOSPEL MUSIC CONCERT, 11 a.m. at Fitzgerald Baptist Church, 14 Fitzgerald Road, Cumberland featuring Smokey Wilson. Seating is limited.

ANNUAL SENIOR CITIZEN SERVICE, 2:30 p.m. at The First Rock Baptist Church of Prospect, the Rev. John Smith and his church Old Green Creek Baptist Church will be the guest.

MEN AND WOMEN IN UNITY DAY, 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 206 Cartersville Road. The program will feature performances by the Royal Supremes of Farmville and the Henley Sisters of Richmond. All are welcome.

MORNING WORSHIP, 11 a.m. at New Witt Baptist Church. The Rev. Kimberly Ashton of First Baptist Church, will deliver the message. Music will be rendered by the New Witt Male Chorus.

ROSE OF SHARON CHOIR ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at the church, 1130 Plank Road, Cumberland. Everyone is welcome to come celebrate.

SHORT HIKE, 10 a.m. along the Battlefield Trail and learn about factors that determine leaf color while enjoying the beauty of the fall colors in the park. Meet at the Staunton River Battlefield Clover Station Visitor Center, 1035 Fort Hill Trail, Randolph.

4TH ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. of Pastor Otis Johnson at Peaks Baptist Church, Prospect. A fellowship dinner will follow.

CONCERT, 4 p.m. at Mt. Zion 2nd Baptist Church, 3753 Green Bay Road, Green Bay, sponsored by the missionaries. Guest will be New Creations Gospel Singers of Appomattox. All are welcome.

PROGRAM, 7 p.m. sponsored by Friends of the Appomattox River entitled “Fascinating biodiversity encounters in Appomattox River basin,” at the Farmville-Prince Edward Library. The presenter will be Dr. Sujan Henkanaththe of Longwood University.

TAR WALLET’S ANNUAL FALL FESTIVAL, 2-5 p.m. at Tar Wallet Baptist Church, Cumberland. Bouncy houses, free games, Brunswick stew, etc. with trunk-or-treat from 4:30-5 p.m. All are welcome.

BIRDING WALK, 9 a.m. meeting at the Appomattox Wayside parking area.

4-H CSI MYSTERY CAMP, Campers ages 9-13 will get the chance to work with local law enforcement to solve several mysteries at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center, Appomattox. Contact your local extension office by Oct. 6.

THE AGECROFT STORY, 3 p.m. at the Hampden-Sydney Atkinson Museum. Learn about how Agecroft Hall was moved from Lancashire, England, to Richmond, Virginia. Learn why T. C. Williams, Jr. chose the house to become the centerpiece of his new development, Winsor Farms. Open to the public.

PUMPKINS ON THE PLAZA, 4:30 p.m. in Downtown Farmville. This event will feature pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, crafts, games, music, and more. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of High Bridge Trail.

PET ADOPTION, noon to 4 pm. sponsored by the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park at the North Carolina Monument pull off, Route 24 within the park. Attendees will be able to meet and interact with dogs from the local animal shelter.

11TH ANNUAL BAPTIST WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER, 7 p.m. at the 1st Baptist Church of Dillwyn. The theme is a continuation of last year’s program “ Arise, Shine for Jesus” focusing on our communities. Guest will be a representative from Madeline House.
