Longwood University field hockey junior goalkeeper Katie Wyman, pictured above, picked up her fourth shutout of the season in Saturday’s Mid-American Conference (MAC) opener and brought home her second MAC Defensive Player of the Week accolade this month, as announced Tuesday by the conference office. After facing a season-high 15 shots in Sunday’s 4-1 win over visiting Georgetown University and collecting her fourth shutout of 2017 on Saturday, Wyman has brought in the program’s fourth conference honor in the month of September. Not only was Wyman stellar in net this past weekend in leading the Lancers to a 2-0 record and one goal conceded, she leads the conference in goals against average (0.98), shutouts (four), goals allowed (seven), is second in save percentage (.774) and has been a major reason why the Lancers sit 8-1 overall and 1-0 in the MAC. Wyman’s teammates Leonie Verstraete and Edel Nyland also took home offensive tabs over the past month. Wyman and the Lancers finish their four-game homestand Saturday when MAC newcomer Appalachian State University visits at noon.
