She commends initiative

As evidenced in Friday’s edition of The Herald, (“Teachers donate to local causes),” each Friday at Prince Edward County High School teachers may donate $1 to participate in Faculty Fridays and get to wear jeans and a school spirit T-shirt.

This year, the money raised is being donated to local causes such as FACES Food Pantry and the Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity.

For the first month of Faculty Fridays, the money is being given to the family of Brianna Gluriceo, a 2017 graduate who recently died in a tragic crash recently.

According to English teacher Mary Jane Cook, Faculty Fridays was organized by Catherine Cole, a fellow English teacher who wanted students to understand the importance of giving to charitable organizations and how those donations impact organizations and how the money is used.

I give high school teachers an A-plus for leadership by example. Your students are fortunate to have caring, involved folks like you who are willing to talk the talk and walk the walk and get involved in their community.

Your donations to local charities will directly help others in the community and hopefully your leadership will encourage students to also become involved and supportive of their community.

You set a great example and we hope you wear your school spirit T-shirts and jeans proudly each Friday.
