CHATHAM (1-0) AT BUCKINGHAM (0-1)
Due to expected inclement weather Friday, this game was rescheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m.
Last season: Chatham 28, Buckingham 24
Coach’s game notes: The Knights have a stiff challenge against the Cavaliers if last week is any indication. The Cavs turned in a record-breaking performance, beating James River High School, of Buchanan, 79-54.
The Knights, who will be getting a few players back from injury, will need to contain three players in particular. Against James River, senior running back Preston Turner had 18 carries for 448 yards and eight touchdowns, adding another score via a reception. Senior wide receiver/running back Parker Martin also shined, as did sophomore quarterback Ethan Reynolds, throwing for 255 yards and three scores.
PRINCE EDWARD (1-0) AT ALTAVISTA (1-0)
Kickoff: Friday, 7 p.m.
Last season: Altavista 24, Prince Edward 0
Coach’s game notes: The Eagles’ priority coming into this game will be to execute on offense. Last year’s contest against the Colonels came down to execution, and the Eagles were not able to get it done. In addition to going scoreless, they committed multiple turnovers that instantly became points. A couple linemen are hurt for the Eagles, and the team will be without starting tackle Deante Trent.
The Eagles will need more of the same from their defense, which held Chatham to three points last year. They will need to contain the Colonels’ Mr. Everything — senior Jacob Adams.
