FFA members compete at state convention

Members of the Buckingham Senior FFA Chapter competed in several competitions June 26-29 at the 91st State Convention held on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.

According to a press release, the FFA competitions are designed to use knowledge and skills that the competitors have learned in their Agriculture Education courses.

“Not only did these members practice during class time, they also spent many hours outside of class time practicing for their contest,” officials said in the release.

The Buckingham High School Senior Agricultural Mechanics Team placed ninth overall.

Team members included Trevor Agee, Anthony Banton, Jakob Toney and Daniel Wood. Shane Catlett also competed as an individual. Andrew Schmitt coached the team.  

“The Veterinary Science team placed ninth overall,” officials said in the release. “Team members included Amanda Bryan, Dylan Price, April Sage and Brandy Snoddy.”

Casey Davis coached the Team.

Amanda Bryan also competed in the Job Interview Contest.

According to the release, she placed 15th overall and was coached by Davis.

Bryan also received her FFA State Degree, which is the second-highest degree awarded by the FFA.

The Buckingham Senior Chapter also received the Public Relations Award and received a “Gold Rating” on the National Superior Chapter Award.

“Buckingham was one of 17 chapters in Virginia to be awarded the ‘Gold Rating,’” officials said in the release.
