FARMVILLE — Farmville Animal Control officials are advising animal owners who live in town that they must have their cats and dogs vaccinated for rabies by a licensed veterinarian.
Animals subject to required vaccinations are those four months and older.
“Recently, Farmville Animal Control has seen an increase in the number of stray dogs and cats in town,” officials said in a press release. “To help reduce this issue, please consider the following tips: spay or neuter your pets, make sure your pets are properly tagged with a collar, name plate and microchip, never feed stray animals and consider all the responsibilities and consequences of owning a pet before making that commitment.”
The release also cited there had been an increase of wildlife in the area as well.
“We would like to remind residents to never put yourself in harm’s way by attempting to capture any stray animal,” officials said in the release.
