Centra Southside Community Hospital is looking to expand services to patients through planned projects — two of which are already in the process of being completed.

According to Centra Southside Marketing Director Kerry Mossler, the hospital is set to open a pulmonary office Aug. 1.

“The doctor that’s coming in (Dr. Sunil Rajan) is already caring for a lot of the patients in Farmville. He’s in Richmond now; he’s our new physician who’s moving here,” Mossler said.

She said many in Farmville currently travel to Richmond to seek treatment from Rajan.

Mossler said the hospital is also currently working to expand the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU).

“We are going from six beds to eight beds in the ICU,” Mossler said. “That will help us because sometimes we have to transfer people out due to capacity restraints.”

She said other planned projects include the renovation of the obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) office, new air handler units for the operating room and replacement of the facility’s hot water system.

Mossler said renovations were being done to the OBGYN clinic to make it more visually appealing.

“The entrance is going to be more convenient. Right now it’s sort of a hassle to get there,” Mossler said.
