APPOMATTOX — Gary Shanaberger has been named town manager of Appomattox.

Shanaberger, who works as a business analyst at Longwood University’s Small Business and Development Center, was hired to his new position Tuesday.

“The council obviously hired him with the feeling he was going to be able to do a good job,” said Appomattox Mayor Paul Harvey. “He does have some things to learn as far as being town manager and learning municipal types of operation, but with his background, his experience and his business background, we feel like he’s going to do a great job for us.”

Harvey said Shanaberger will begin work as town manager Aug. 1.
