Henry Howard Smith

Henry Howard Smith, 92, of Farmville, passed from this life into the next on June 3, 2017.
He is predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Anna Laura Smith. He is survived by his two sons, the Rev. William (Bill) Smith and Mr. Andre´ Smith; two devoted daughters-in-law, Mrs. Judy Bracewell Smith and Mrs. Pammy Casey Smith; six grandchildren, Jason Smith, Luke Smith, Justin (Mairin) Smith, Charles (Chrissy) Smith, Carter Smith, and Kathryn Smith; three great-grandchildren, Adelaide Smith, Grant Smith, and John Smith; and many good friends.
Henry proudly served his nation during World War II fighting with the 75th Infantry “Diaper Division.” He fought in the Battle of the Bulge with distinction. Upon discharge from the United States Army, following World War II, he married Anna Laura Conley.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved to care for others. Frequently, Henry could be found in the kitchen making a favorite meal or dessert for his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Maranatha Baptist Church, located at 2204 Tuggle Road, Farmville, Virginia. The family will receive friends at the church at 10 a.m. Following the funeral, everyone is invited to join the family for lunch in the church’s fellowship hall. Interment will follow at Montvale Baptist Church Cemetery, located at 1062 Cemetery Road, Montvale, Virginia.
