The Virginia Credit Union has awarded a $2,500 scholarship to Sarah-Jane French, of Cumberland, through its Virginia Credit Union Scholarship Program.

According to a Virginia Credit Union press release, French was selected on the basis of scholastic achievement, community service, extracurricular activities, an essay and work to help cover the cost of education.

“A 2017 graduate of Fuqua School, she is planning to attend Butler Community College and study animal science,” officials said in the release. “Overall, Virginia Credit Union awarded $75,000 in college scholarships to 30 student members through its program.”
