Scottish Rite supports public education

For the second year in a row, the Scottish Rite of Lynchburg Valley presented Buckingham County Public Schools with a check for $1,500 in support of the preschool reading program. The group, which is part of the Masonic Lodge, donated the funds to help mitigate gaps in reading for preschoolers in Buckingham. Jim Charleston, who leads the Scottish Rite, is pictured handing the donation to Thelma Llewellyn, director of student services. Buckingham County Masons and Division Superintendent Dr. Cecil Snead joined in acknowledging the donation. Snead noted that Harry Bryant, a Mason and a member of the board of supervisors, was the catalyst for the initial donation being made last year. Pictured are, from left, front row, Gary Farrish, John O’Bryant, Bryant, second row, Charleston, Llewellyn, Snead; back row, Ronnie Palmore and Chuck Llewellyn. We commend the Scottish Rite of Lynchburg Valley and the Masonic Lodge for being such great partners with the school division.
