Eight Longwood University senior student-athletes will be representing their school on the diamond when official commencement ceremonies take place Saturday on Wheeler Mall, so they were honored in a special ceremony Tuesday afternoon on Ruffner Lawn. For the third straight year, Longwood President W. Taylor Reveley IV and Director of Athletics Troy Austin collaborated to hold the special event, which also included University Provost Dr. Joan Neff, Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Tim Pierson and a large gathering of Longwood faculty, coaches, staff and the graduates’ teammates and family members. Reveley presented undergraduate diplomas to graduating baseball players Mitchell Kuebbing, Alex Lewis, Luke Simpson, Cody Wager and Tyler Wirsu and to graduating softball players Justina Augustine, Jenna Carnes and Elizabeth McCarthy. This weekend, the softball players will be in Knoxville, Tennessee, playing in the NCAA Division I Softball Tournament, and the baseball players will be in Buies Creek, North Carolina, playing in their final regular season series.
