The Farmville Jaycees will present their second annual free outdoor movie event Saturday at 8 p.m. at Riverside Park in downtown Farmville.
According to a press release, the Jaycees will present Rogue One: A Star Wars Story — rated PG-13.
“We had a really good turnout last year, and it seemed like an event we wanted to continue to do moving forward,” said Jaycees spokesman Jeff Gore.
Gore said the event wouldn’t be possible without sponsors.
“Sunchase agreed to help us do the movie again as lead sponsors, and then we had our contributing sponsors that agreed,” Gore said.
According to the release, contributing sponsors include Merk’s Place, State Farm Insurance Agent Edgar Jones, Farmville Downtown Partnership and First Bank.
“It’s a good event for Farmville and downtown, and it’s a good event for the community because it’s free and people can come and enjoy a good evening for relatively no cost,” Gore said.
He said the event will be held on an annual basis.
“We’re going to give out free popcorn. We encourage people, if they want, to come in a costume because we’re going to have a costume contest with prizes,” Gore said. “We’re going to be selling water on site, and if people want to bring their own food, they can do that and eat during the movie.”
According to the release, Sunchase Cinema 8 will be giving away a gift basket valued at $50 for those who register at its table. The prize for the costume contest will be a Blu-ray copy of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
