Spring extravaganza set

Come out to the Future Farmers of America spring extravaganza at Buckingham Middle School on Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Enjoy a petting zoo, Easter pictures with live animals, face painting, arts and crafts and food for purchase. A free Emergency Vehicle Operation Certification class will be held on April 22 and 23 at 8 a.m. at the Buckingham County Rescue Squad Building in Dillwyn. Contact training officer Carl Potts for more information at (434) 260-4898. New volunteer drivers are always welcome. All training is free.

Glenmore United Methodist Church, 7988 Howardsville Road, Glenmore, will sponsor a benefit dinner for Crystal Agee, who is experiencing health issues. The event will be held Saturday, 4 -6 p.m. at the church. The meal will consist of Brunswick Stew, ham rolls or hot dog, dessert and drink and is eat-in or take-out. Price will be by donation. Want to enjoy some gospel music while supporting a worthwhile cause? Enon Baptist Church is featuring “All Problems Solved,” a gospel group with Worm Patterson and Floyd Reid on Sunday at 4 p.m. A love offering will be collected to support Relay for Life.

Virginia Cooperative Extension provides valuable information to families. The Family Nutrition Program (FNP) teaches limited-resource families, individuals and youth to make healthier food choices and become better managers of available food resources for better health and growth. The FNP program reaches out to limited resource households receiving food stamps and those who are at 130 percent of poverty or below. If you qualify, there are free nutritional programs through Virginia Cooperative Extension, and you can receive six free adult lessons for one hour each (one lesson a week), recipes and the chance for free gifts during certain programs, lessons can be done in the recipient’s home or at the Buckingham or Cumberland Extension Offices and a free newsletter that includes recipes, games and health and nutrition information, Call Christina Knowsley at the Buckingham Extension Office at (434) 969-4261 or chrisk6@vt.edu for more information.

Central Virginia Community Health Center (CVCHC) has ongoing fitness classes for the entire family. This week’s events include: Saturday, free yoga at 11:30 a.m.; Monday, free use of gym all day; Tuesday is Tai Chi at 10 a.m. and CIZE class at 5:30 p.m.; Wednesday is yoga at 5 p.m. and Thursday is Body Attack at 6 p.m.

A thrift sale to benefit Maysville Baptist Youth Group’s camp expenses will be held Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. each day inside at the original Maysville Baptist Fellowship Hall, 13327 W. James Anderson Hwy., Buckingham, in Buckingham Court House. There is lots to choose from, including household items, clothes, toys, beanie babies, furniture, jewelry and more.
