Robert James “Jim” Merritt, 71 of Prospect, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Sentara Leigh Hospital.

He was born in Statesville, North Carolina and was adopted by William and Pauline Honeycutt. Jim was a proud U.S. Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily Francis Ann Merritt.

Jim is survived by his son Duane Merritt, daughter-in-law, Lisa Williams Merritt; grandson Joshua Merritt.

Jim will be cremated by Puckett Funeral Home and laid to rest with his wife Ann in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia. A small family service will be held.
