Longwood University’s softball team entered the 2017 season having won 27-of-32 Big South Conference best-of-three regular season series since entering the league, but the Lancers have struggled to maintain that dominant winning tradition this year. On Saturday, they lost their third Big South series of the season, dropping them to 5-7 in the conference and 16-23 overall.

“We’re fighting to figure out how to play better softball, we just haven’t done it yet,” said Longwood Head Coach Kathy Riley, who is in her 20th season leading the Lancers and has led them to a record of .500 or better in each of her previous 19 seasons.
