The Longwood University club softball team had an outstanding 2017 spring semester, going 10-1 overall. The Lancers defeated a variety of club teams, including those from the University of Virginia (U.Va.), Towson University, the University of Mary Washington, Montclair State University, of New Jersey, Christopher Newport University and Southside Virginia Community College. Longwood won all of its home games, and its only loss of the semester came in the semifinal round of the sizable two-day U.Va. Spring Classic. Lancers Head Coach Tony Matthews said, “The team would like to thank Longwood and the parents and fans for their support. They look forward to a great fall season.” He said they will be losing only two seniors — Kaitlyn Matthews, team co-president, and Jen Ryan, former team co-president.
