APRIL 20

BIBLE STUDY, 7 p.m. sponsored by Fresh Air Ministries at Holiday Inn, downtown Lynchburg on Main Street. Bible Study is conducted by Pastor Charles Ramey Sr., of EMPOWERMENT Temple, COGIC of Pamplin.

THIRD THURSDAY WINE DOWN, 4-8 p.m. at the Virginia Tasting Cellar with a fundraiser for the SPCA. A percentage of proceeds will go to the shelter.

MEETING, 6:30 p.m. of the Farmville Jack Garland American Legion Post 32 and the Legion Auxiliary at the Thomas Hardy Graham VFW Post, 1616 Graham Road, Farmville. All members and prospective members are asked to attend.

COMMUNITY BEREAVEMENT WORKSHOP, 5:30 p.m. sponsored by New Century Hospice, 201 N. Main St., Suite 300 (third floor). The focus will be on mindfulness and grief and will include information and time to practice mindful meditation. Call or email the Rev. SPECIAL PROGRAM, sponsored by the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, titled “Echoes of Appomattox: The Other April 9 Surrender, Bataan 1942” in the Visitor Center Theater by Christopher Kolakowski, the director of the Douglas MacArthur Memorial/Museum in Norfolk. The talk will discuss the largest surrender in American History that occurred April 9, 1942.

APRIL 21

BLOOD DRIVE, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at Buckingham County High School, 98 Fannie White Road.

CRUISE IN, 5 p.m. till dusk, at the old Schewel’s Parking lot sponsored by the Heart of Virginia Classic Auto Club. Bring your classic car to show or just come and look at the cars. A 50/50 drawing will be held, and three top trophies will be awarded to the winners of public votes.

APRIL 21-22

MUSIC WORKSHOP, 7-9 p.m. at First Liberty Baptist Church, Dillwyn and continuing Saturday, April 22, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Johnathan Spivey will act as facilitator. Contact Nannie Woodson, minister of music, at (434) 983-3876.

APRIL 22

BENEFIT MOTORCYCLE RIDE, 9 a.m. to benefit the Burkeville Lodge for the Blind. Registration is 9 a.m. at the Burkeville Lodge, 341 Oak St., Burkeville. Ride begins at 10 a.m. Day includes a 145-mile scenic ride to Lovingston, lunch at the Burkeville Lodge and drawings. Route details will be handed out the morning of the ride. PAINT YOUR PET PARTY, at Red Door 104, a fundraiser for the Southside SPCA. Two time-slots are available: 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m.

BIRDING ADVENTURE, 8 a.m. sponsored by the Margaret Watson Bird Club with volunteers from High Bridge Trail. PRAYER BREAKFAST, 9 a.m. at Morrison Grove Baptist Church, Charlotte Court House. The speaker is Minister Lillian Johnson. The Women Empowerment Bible Study welcomes all women to come and enjoy breakfast and hear the word of God.

ANNUAL YOUTH EXPLOSION, 4 p.m. at Petersville Baptist Church, New Canton. Guests include Abundant Life Church of Christ, Church of All Nations, Tearwallet, Beautiful Plain Baptist, Little Zion, New Direction Evangelistic Church and Divine Angels.

PASTOR ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. of the Rev. Lloyd S. Wesley Sr. pastor of Mt. Ellis Baptist Church, 8409 George Washington Hwy., Keysville. The Rev. Dr. Maurice Finney, pastor of Aspen Hill and St. Andrews Baptist Church will deliver the Word of God. He will be accompanied by his choir. Everyone is welcome.

WOMEN’S DAY PROGRAM, 3 p.m. at New Witt Baptist Church on U.S. Route 15, Farmville. Guest minister will be Apostle Melony Riles of the Powerful Praise Impact Ministries of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Riles is the sister of Brother Thomas Lewis. The public is invited.

MISSIONARY CONVENTION’S SPRING RALLY, 5 p.m. sponsored by the United Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention of Central Virginia at Mount Olive Baptist Church, intersection of Routes 15 and 20, Dillwyn. All convention churches are reminded to bring a talent by youth or adult missionaries and their annual junior and senior donations. All are invited to attend.

142ND CHURCH ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, 14167 Farmville Road, Meherrin. The Rev. Vater C. Colbert Sr. will be the guest speaker for the day. Colbert is pastor of Restoration Baptist Church in Amelia and his congregation will accompany him. All are invited. Dinner will be served.

ANNUAL DAY, 3 p.m. of the missionaries of Mt. Zion 2nd Baptist Church. Guest preacher will be Pastor Leon Jackson of Zion Hill Baptist. Music will be rendered by Anthony Tucker and singers.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY, 11 a.m. at Gill Hill Baptist Church, 1427 County Line Road, Keysville. The speaker for the morning service will be the Rev. Barbra Reed, of Meherrin. Music will be rendered by a gust choir. Everyone is welcome. Dinner will be served.

APRIL 25

REGULAR BOARD MEETING, 11 a.m. of the Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District in the conference room of the Prince Edward County Natural Resources and Agricultural Building, 100 Dominion Dr., Farmville. The public is invited to attend the meeting.

PANCAKE SUPPER, 5-7 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Glenmore. Dinner for a love offering includes pancakes, sausage, applesauce, coffee and all the fixings. The church is located at the intersection of Routes 655 and 602 at Glenmore. Call (434) 390-7023 for more information.

WATER QUALITY TESTING, at Buckingham County Extension Office. Take the opportunity to have your pond, creek, stream or household water tested. Pick up your kit on Monday, April 24, 6-8 p.m. and drop it back off on Wednesday, April 26 from 7:30 -9:30 a.m. at the extension office. The fee is $55 per kit.

APRIL 27

JOB FAIR, 2-4:30 p.m. at Southside Virginia Education Center (SVEC). The event is sponsored by Southside Virginia Community College, Crater Regional Workforce and Lakes Media. The event is free and open to the public and will be held at SVEC, 1300 Greensville Country Circle, Emporia. Be sure to dress to impress, bring copies of your resume, a photo ID and copy of WorkKeys Career Readiness Certificate (CRC). Pre-registration is required at southside.augusoft.net.

CANNING WORKSHOP, 6-8 p.m. sponsored by Virginia Cooperative Extension at the Southern Piedmont AREC, 2375 Darvills Road, Blackstone. Register by Friday by calling (434) 607-2049 or email bowen@vt.edu.

FREE WORKSHOP, 1:30 p.m. raising fish in pond cages at VSU’s Randolph Farm, 4415 River Road, Ettrick. Free and open to the public, the workshop is designed for anyone with a farm pond who is interested raising fish in cages for profit or personal consumption.

APRIL 29

SPRING SPRINT, sponsored by the Friends of Twin Lakes State Park. This one-mile fun run for children is a family fun event where kids will race around Goodwin Lake and compete for trophies. To register in advance, email the Friends of Twin Lakes at twinlakesparkfriends@gmail.com or call the park office at (434) 392-3435. Registration is $18 per child the day of the event. There are four age groups in the race: four and under, 5-8, 9-11 and 12-14.

SPAGHETTI SUPPER, 5-7 p.m. sponsored by the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary at the Prospect Firehouse, 45 Campbell Hill Road, Prospect. The meal will include spaghetti, salad, bread, tea, lemonade and dessert, all for a donation. Carry out will be available.
