William Cecil Ashburn, 79, of Cumberland died March 25, 2017. He was born January 18, 1938 in Cumberland County, a son of the late William Lewis and Cordelia Bryant Ashburn.

He was a member of Hatcher Baptist Church. He was a self-employed contractor. Cecil was a gifted musician and was well-known for singing with family members at churches throughout the community. In his later years enjoyed dining and spending time with his friends at the Cumberland Restaurant.

He is survived by his children, Tommy Ray Ashburn and Annette Cothren; his sisters, Thelma Grimes, Gracie Danford and Joyce Wendorff; one grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Roosevelt and Melvin; sisters, Dorothy, Marie and Edith and grandchildren, Casey and L.J.

A graveside service was held Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
