A mother and her two children were displaced from their home following a fire at 285 Goldmine St. in Dillwyn on Friday.
According to Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Chief Jason Wharam, the fire started around 3:25 p.m. and took around 30 minutes to get under control.
Wharam said it was important to remember for residents to check their smoke detectors.
“This lady was sleeping (when the fire started) and somebody stopped by and woke her up,” Wharam said. “Early detection is everything in a house fire.”
Wharam said the investigation as to the cause of the fire was ongoing.
In addition to Dillwyn, volunteers from Arvonia and Toga assisted.
