Leaders with Southside Electric Cooperative (SEC) recently spoke to members of the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce.

“Jacob McCann, community relations coordinator for (SEC) presented an enjoyable and informational lecture to a packed crowd of over 70 attendees at the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce’s monthly lunch at Charleys Waterfront Café,” chamber officials said in a press release.

“Existing since 1937 and serving over 46,000 members, SEC services stretch roughly from Bedford to Petersburg. McCann dove into the tangibles of power line safety, energy efficiency, methods to save money on electric bills, community involvement and a new program hosted at the Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) — the Power Line Worker Training School. The first-of-its-kind (program) in the area, this is a partnership between Virginia Cooperatives and SVCC. The 11-week program is designed for potential powerline workers. To date, three classes have graduated and every student has obtained a lineman job almost immediately.”
