The Central Virginia Regional Library is seeking to rebuild its management team following the resignation of one librarian and the retirement of another.

According to Rick Ewing, the director of the Central Virginia Regional Library, which has branches in Farmville and Dillwyn, Ruth Stubbs, the branch manager for Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library, will leave the system on March 24.

Ewing said she’s moving into another library system in Virginia outside of Richmond.

“She’ll have more opportunities for advancement there, and she’s at the beginning at her career so it’s probably a good move,” Ewing said.

Ewing took over as director of the Central Virginia Regional Library on Feb. 6 after the former director, Peggy Epperson, retired.

Ewing said the library will soon interview for both the Buckingham and Farmville-Prince Edward branch manager positions.

The Buckingham vacancy was created when Ewing, who was branch manager in Dillwyn, took over as director of the library.

“We have three people (at) our management level and two of those positions we’re filling … I’m new, so this will be a new team for the library,” Ewing said. “When I think about this, I’m sort of building my team to lead the library into the future.”

Ewing moved to the area from Cape May, N.J. around a year ago to work as the branch manager in Dillwyn.

Epperson retired after spending more than 25 years working as a director for the library system. The Regional Library Board brought in a consultant from the state library to search for her successor, while Stubbs acted as director in the interim.
