Joyce Adcock Ragland, 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Heritage Hall in Dillwyn.

She was born on December 2, 1938, in Charlottesville, to Thomas and Lula Adcock. She is survived by her loving husband, of 58 years, Lee Garland Ragland Jr.; sister, Eunice A. Walker; two sons, Thomas Lee Ragland and wife, Debra of Williamsburg and David Anthony Ragland and wife, Candice of Farmville; and two daughters, Deborah Ragland Lane and husband, Joe of Charlottesville and Pamela Ragland Stanley and husband, Bobby of Buckingham. She leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Two year old Jase could bring a smile to her face in the waning days of her life. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and the entire Glenmore community. She had the pleasure of sharing an entire lifetime with two close friends, Faye Bryant and Irene Hughes, bless you both for the comfort you provided.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas G. and Lula D. Adcock, and her brother-in-law, William Walker.

Joyce retired from the Buckingham school system after 19 years of service. She was a gracious hostess, and fed many fantastic meals from her small kitchen in Glenmore. She was a dedicated mother and wife doing all the things necessary to manage her home and keep all comfortable. She spent many hot August days canning vegetables with her woodstove. She never complained during even the hardest times of her illness. She usually answered “fine” or “good” when asked, “How are you,” and her smile will be missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to express our appreciation to the staff of Heritage Hall for looking after our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Funeral services were held at the church on Thursday, 2:00 p.m.
