Glenna Oliver Hix

Glenna Mae Oliver Hix, 83, Hixburg Road, Pamplin, died Monday, March 20, 2017, at her residence. She was the wife of William Daniel Hix for 63 years.

Born in Prospect, Va., on January 13, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth “Bessie” Moon and Rueben Hutton Oliver. She was a member of Elon Baptist Church, Pamplin and a 1952 graduate of Farmville High School. Glenna worked in numerous capacities over her lifetime: clerk work in an attorney’s office and VEPCO office, a teacher’s aide at the Pamplin School, the Hix Brothers Family Store and as a loving mother and homemaker.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Jane Hix of Charlottesville, Danny Hix and his wife, Debbie of Hixburg, Cynthia Smith and husband, Nathan of Appomattox, and Mary Beth Rolfe and husband, Dan of Weyers Cave; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue Rae and the Rev. Tommy Thompson of Harrisonburg and Florence and John Hix of Hixburg; eight grandchildren, Will Hix and wife, Lindsey, Tom Smith, Phillip Smith, Hailey Crouse, Holden Crouse, Stephanie Tyree, Samantha Stratton and husband, John, and Susan Tyree; two great-grandchildren, Walker Smith and Anniston Hix; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell, John, Tom, and Paul Oliver and a sister, Elizabeth Oliver.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, March 23, 2017, in Elon Baptist Church by the Rev. David Sexton, the Rev. John Campbell and Jeremy Lakes. Burial will follow in Walker’s Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Hixburg.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., on Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
