SEASONAL WINE AND BREW SERIES, 5-7 p.m. at the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts (LCVA) located at 129 N. Main St. There will be complimentary appetizers provided. BARBECUE CHICKEN DINNER, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church, 1 Stoney Point Road, to help a Cumberland County family with some of their medical expenses from cancer treatments. Meal will consist of barbecue chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, rolls, dessert and a drink. Carry out is available. Please drop by and have a delicious meal, help out a family and make a donation for the meal.

STARGAZING AT THE PARK, 7:30 p.m. sponsored by the Richmond Astronomy Club at James River State Park to show a variety of stars and explore many other things that glitter in the night sky. Bring your own binoculars or borrow them from the park to see these amazing wonders. In addition, there is a wagon ride to the beautiful Tye River Overlook leaving from the Canoe Livery at 5 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Cost is $3 per person or $8 per family for the wagon ride. CENTRAL VIRGINIA ARTS LECTURE, 3 p.m., “Post Modern African American Art by Art Historian,” Amanda Dalla Villa Adams. The lecture will be held at the Moton Museum in Farmville and is free and open to the public.

MOZART’S ICONIC REQUIEM, 3 p.m. performed by the Commonwealth Chorale at College Church, 418 College Road, at Hampden-Sydney College. The performance is free of charge; no tickets are required. LENTEN SERVICES/LUNCHEON, noon, Payne Memorial United Methodist Church, 1 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland. The theme this year is “Tiny Faith—Awesome Grace.” The speaker will be the Rev. Lewis Brandt and the topic is “Enough Faith.” The lunch will be provided by members of the congregation.

REAL-TIME BATTLEFIELD HIKE, 4 p.m. sponsored by the staff of Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park. Join them as they hike in real time one of three battlefields which was the scene of fighting here 152 years ago, the historic Hillsman House. Visitors will participate in a minute-by-minute guided hike along the footsteps of the soldiers that fought the Battle of the Hillsman Farm. The hike will conclude at the Confederate Overlook trailhead. Visitors may return to the Hillsman House for a living history tour of that site. This family-friendly/pet-friendly event is free to the public.

APRIL 7

STATEWIDE FISHING CAMP, at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center, 1267 4-H Camp Road, Appomattox. The weekend camp is open to children ages 9-13. No experience is necessary. Beginners welcome! Campers will learn knot tying, fishing safety, fish ID and casting techniques as well as all about fishing equipment and different types of bait. 152ND ANNIVERSARY OF THE SURRENDER AT APPOMATTOX, sponsored by The American Civil War Museum, with programs and demonstrations from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday, at the Museum of the Confederacy-Appomattox. EASTER EGG HUNT, 9-11 a.m. the Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary is holding a breakfast with the Easter Bunny and egg hunt at the firehouse, 2145 Cumberland Road. The egg hunt will be at 10 a.m. Breakfast will be pancakes, egg casserole, muffins, juice, milk and coffee. Have children ages infant to 12 to bring their Easter baskets to collect the eggs. Please donate at the door to support the fire department. The auxiliary meets on the first Wednesday of the month at the firehouse. New members are needed and welcomed.

152nd COMMEMORATION OF THE BATTLES OF SAILOR’S CREEK, 10 a.m. at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park. This event will entail living history throughout the park. Experience Civil War soldier encampments and scheduled battlefield tactics. A caravan tour will be led by park manager and noted author Chris Calkins visiting key sites of the “Lee’s Retreat” driving tour. There will also be many living historians providing civilian and medical demonstrations at the historic Hillsman House. This family-friendly event is free to the public.

FISH FRY, 4-7 p.m. sponsored by the Piney Ridge UMC Relay for Life Team at the Pamplin Fire Department. Menu includes baked beans, coleslaw, hushpuppies, potatoes, hot dogs, desserts, tea, lemonade or water. Eat in or take out. Suggested donation is $7.

WOMAN TO WOMAN TRAINING DAY, 10 a.m. at EMPOWERMENT Temple COGIC (formerly House of Prayer Family Worship Center), 354 Wood Row Road, Pamplin. There will be presentations/workshops for women to come and be empowered and inspired in their daily lives. This is a free event and light refreshments will be served.
