February was a busy month at Buckingham County Primary School! On Feb. 7, the second annual spelling bee was held with all second graders. The winner this year was Tanner Haines. In recognition of Black History Month, a celebration was held with guest speaker Joyce Gooden. Gooden shared a meaningful history of black history in Buckingham and around the country. The students displayed their Black History Month projects and read information about famous black Americans. And the month would not have been complete without celebrating Read Across America week from Feb. 27- March 3. A nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on March 2 to honor Dr. Seuss’ birthday. On Monday, Feb. 27, the week was kicked off by inviting some community members to take part in reading to the students. Second-grade students traveled to Hampden-Sydney College on Tuesday, Feb. 28 to celebrate their love for reading. The rest of the week was filled with traveling readers, character days and of course the famous Seussabration!
