Annual banquet is Saturday

Straight Street — Buckingham Inc. will hold its annual banquet on Saturday at Dillwyn First Baptist Church.

Dinner will include ham steak, green beans, fried apples, rolls and dessert. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by a musical program provided by talent that includes Ruby Grey and Elizabeth Gentry and her family. Tickets are $20 per person. In addition, Straight Street will also be welcoming and introducing four new board members at the banquet to include Joseph Patterson, Tawanna Patterson, Dwayne Cunningham and Tara Cunningham.

Why not come in out of the cold since there is still some winter left? Join Central Virginia Health Center for some fun fitness and health exercises. This week, the center offers Tai Chi on Tuesday at 10 a.m.; Yoga on Wednesday at 5 p.m.; Body Attack on Thursday at 6 p.m.; and Toddlers on the Move on Friday at 11 a.m.

Have a pond or just want to learn more about one? Attend a workshop focusing on basic pond maintenance (aquatic weed control and algae control), stocking (types of fish and stocking rates) and dam maintenance (conservation practices). The event will be held on Friday, March 24 from 1-4:30 p.m. at the Cumberland Extension office. Register no later than March 22 by calling (804) 492-4390. Cost is $5 at the door. Wrap up will include a trip to a pond within two miles of the meeting site. This is great information with spring just around the corner.

Are you a new or already established business in Buckingham? Either way, the Buckingham Chamber of Commerce might just be the right place to promote your business. Come to the next Buckingham Chamber of Commerce meeting, which will be held on March 21 at the VFW hall at 6:30 p.m. The Buckingham Chamber of Commerce holds monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings include outstanding guest speakers, as well as a light meal. A monthly newsletter goes out to all members with the location of the meeting along with program and meal information. Chamber membership dues are $35 per year, and are an excellent investment in a network of like-minded and involved individuals who come together to help make Buckingham County better for everyone.

Habitat for Humanity is hosting its second annual Free Gospel Explosion on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Crystal Cathedral, 16764 Oak Street, Dillwyn. Everyone is invited to attend.

The Buckingham County Sheriff’s Office has added decals to their vehicles proclaiming “In God We Trust.” Thanks to Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Buckingham for providing these decals.

If you’ve got some aluminum cans to dispose of, you’ve just earned a little cash! Aluminum can recycling day is Saturday at the Dillwyn Refuse Site from 9-11:30. a.m. Please separate cans from pie plates and pet food cans. Clean out your trash while getting a few dollars!
