Miss Buckingham Pageant next Saturday

The Miss Buckingham Pageant is set for March 11 at 7 p.m. at the Buckingham County High school auditorium. Tickets are $8 each and doors open at 6 p.m. Due to the large number of contestants this year, the pageant should prove to be an enjoyable evening for all. The Miss Buckingham Pageant is sponsored by the Dillwyn Fire Department Auxiliary, with all proceeds going to the Dillwyn Fire Department.

The Buckingham 4-H Livestock Club will hold its next monthly meeting Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. at the Virginia Cooperative Extension-Buckingham Office. The special guest speaker will be Morgan Croft, state grader from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, who will explain how sheep, goats, beef cattle and hogs are graded. The club will also take a short field trip to a member’s farm where the state grader will grade beef cattle. The fitness center at Central Virginia Community Health Center is helping folks get fit. Join them on Tuesday at 10 a.m. for Tai Chi; Wednesday at 5 p.m. for yoga; Thursday at 6 p.m. for Body Attack; and Friday, March 10 at 11 a.m. for Toddlers on the Move.

Want to help support the schools while getting discounts at area businesses and restaurants? Stop by Buckingham County High School’s main office for a discount card (honored through Aug. 31). Cards are available to purchase for $5 each and can be used in Dillwyn at Pino’s, Friday’s and McDonalds (and numerous Farmville eating establishments), as well as businesses like Nancy’s Gifts, Hair Corral and Special Touch Florist.

Buckingham Extension Service/4-H has announced camp for summer. If you have a child age 5-8 (as of Sept. 20), you may want to consider sending him/her to 4-H Cloverbud Weekend at Holiday Lake 4-H Center on June 16-18. If you have questions about camp, or if you are interested in being an adult volunteer, please contact (434) 969-4261. The camp always has a waiting list. Register today if interested.

The next Buckingham TRIAD meeting will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Buckingham County Department of Social Services building at Buckingham Court House.
