One of Farmville’s favorite eateries is moving and expanding into Southern Cumberland County.

Shogun Japanese Steakhouse, Hibachi and Sushi on South Main Street is relocating to its new location at 707 N. Main St., just inside Cumberland County.

Ru Qiu and her husband, Bin Jiang — the proprietors of Shogun — have owned the restaurant for nearly six years.

Qiu said the primary reason for the move was to expand the restaurant’s space. The new restaurant will be twice the size of the current building, growing from 1600 square feet to 3200.

According to Qiu, the restaurant does not always have enough room for its patrons at the current location.

“Sometimes the weekend is so busy we don’t have room for everybody, and we have to pass up on customers,” Qiu said.

The expansion will also see a sushi bar and drink bar added. To accommodate for the increase, Qiu said the restaurant is looking to hire two more chefs and two or three more waiters and waitresses to the staff.

Qiu said she is not worried about losing any customers after moving.

“We have a big group of regular customers,” Qiu said. “And the ones that I’ve told about the move to are very excited; some even said we should have done it sooner.”

The restaurant will be continuing its weekly deals at the new location, Qiu assured.

“We are really looking forward to moving to the new location,” Qiu said. “We are closer to Longwood University and the Greenfront; it’s more readily accessible.”

Shogun plans on having a ribbon cutting, but an official date has not been set.
