SCA, FFA selling fresh strawberries

The Buckingham County High School SCA (Student Council Association) and FFA (Future Farmers of America) are selling fresh Florida strawberries during the month of February. The last day to place and pay for orders is Tuesday, and the delivery date will be the week of March 13. Available by the flat ($24), half flat ($12) and quart ($4), these strawberries are perfect for berry lovers, jelly makers and those looking for a touch of summer before the end of winter. The first meeting of the 4-H Rabbit Club will be held on Wednesday at the Buckingham Agriculture Center at 6:30 p.m. The focus of the club will be on raising and showing rabbits. Youth do not have to currently own a rabbit or live in Buckingham to participate, and are encouraged to attend the first meeting to find out what is involved. First Baptist Church is hosting a benefit dinner on Saturday at 5 p.m. For $10, you will get a great meal and music by All Problems Solved (Bud and Worm Patterson), The Bruschi Family and First Baptist Choir. Those who attend will be entered into a drawing for a Tundra 35 Yeti cooler. All proceeds go to benefit Carey Davis for assistance with medical expenses. The National FFA Organization (formerly known as the Future Farmers of America) celebrated National FFA Week this week. The Buckingham High School and Buckingham Middle School chapters are among 7,859 chapters in the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.  The FFA is a co-curricular organization that is an integral part of the agricultural education curriculum. Members are given hands-on experience in the agriculture classroom, leadership opportunities to build their personal growth, premiere leadership, career success and work experience through supervised agricultural experiences. Among many activities throughout the year, the Buckingham FFA chapters have competed at the Virginia State Fair, challenged by Appomattox FFA chapter in a “Super Bowl” canned food drive, participated in leadership conferences at Virginia Tech and Graves Mountain Lodge and will compete at the Virginia FFA state convention in June.
