Miss Buckingham Pageant is March 11

The Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary is sponsoring the Miss Buckingham Pageant to be held on March 11. The pageant is for contestants ages 3-21. Applications can be obtained from the Buckingham County schools, Farmer’s Bank, New Images, Blush Salon, Dillwyn Fire House, Special Touch Florist and on Facebook. Tickets are $5 and available at Special Touch Designs Florist & Gifts, Moss Motor and other locations to be announced. Drawing is Feb. 25 during dinner at First Baptist Church. 

Buckingham/Cumberland County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director J.L. Chandler Jr. recently announced that farmers and ranchers in Virginia can now receive notifications from their county office through text messages on their cell phone. Whether producers are in the field, on a tractor or even on horseback, this service enables FSA customers and stakeholders to receive notifications while on the go. Producers will receive text messages regarding important program deadlines, reporting requirements, outreach events and updates. Producers can text VABuckingham or VACumberland to FSANOW (372-669) to subscribe to text message alerts from Buckingham/Cumberland County. Standard text messaging rates apply. A welcome reception for Rick Ewing, the new Director of the Central Virginia Regional Library, will be held Feb. 16 from 6-8 p.m. in the meeting room at the Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library. The event is co-hosted by the Friends of the Buckingham and Farmville libraries. Refreshments will be served. The reception is open to the public. The Farmville-Prince Edward Library is located at 1303 W. Third St., Farmville.

Join the fun at the Central Virginia Community Health Center (CVCHC) for the following upcoming fitness events: Wednesday at 5 p.m., Yoga class; Thursday at 6 p.m., Body Attack; and Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11:30 a.m. Free Yoga class. Come get fit while having fun!

Come out for a Valentine’s Banquet to be held at First Baptist Church on Saturday at 4 p.m. Menu includes roast beef, green beans, salad, rolls, dessert and drinks, all provided for a donation. Brenda Absher will bring special music. The public is invited. For questions, call (434) 983-2269.
