FEBRUARY 23

EVENING STORYTIME, 7 p.m. at the Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library for preschool children up to age 5 to wind down before bedtime. Stories and rhymes will be shared, then a craft before leaving. Pajamas and non-talking stuffed animals are welcome.

FEBRUARY 24

COMMUNITY MEETING, 6 p.m. at Prince Edward County Middle School to discuss ways to help youth resist pressures which may influence them to experiment with drugs, join a gang or conduct themselves inappropriately on social media sites. The meeting will also be in regards to discussing the Crisis Intervention Program (CIT), a community worker initiative to assist people who may experience a mental health crisis. There is no cost associated with this event, and light refreshments will be served.

AFRICAN-AMERICAN BANQUET, 3 p.m. at the Frances Redwood Education Center, 27294 N. James Madison Hwy., New Canton, sponsored by the United Baptist Women’s Missionary and Educational Convention of Central Virginia. BLACK HISTORY PROGRAM, 3 p.m. at High Bridge Baptist Church. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Robert Jones of Sharon Baptist Church, along with his choir of Cumberland. A soul food dinner will be served at 2 p.m. All are welcome.

BLACK HISTORY PROGRAM, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Farmville, 100 S. Main St. The speaker will be the Hon. Machelle Eppes, clerk of the court for Prince Edward County. Eppes was elected in 2005 and became the first African American to serve in this capacity. The youth will render the music. Special tribute will be given to celebrate Black History month. A meal will follow. The Rev. James P. Ashton is pastor.

WINTER PROGRAM, 7 p.m. sponsored by High Bridge Trail State Park and the Farmville-Prince Edward Library. Ranger Bob Flippen will present a PowerPoint entitled “The Vagabond in Farmville, Virginia.” The event will be held at the library.

FEBRUARY 28

PANCAKE SUPPER, 6 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 2887 Cartersville Road, Cartersville. All-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage and baked apples, $7 a plate.

MEETING, 4 p.m. of the Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District in the conference room of the Amelia Baptist Church, 9101 Amelia St., Amelia. The public is invited to attend.

MEET, EAT AND GREET, 6:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Baptist Church, Cumberland. Open to the public.

CELESTIAL SKIES AT SAILOR’S CREEK, 7 p.m. with the Crewe Astronomy Club. If you have a telescope, bring it along. In addition, the facilitator of this event, Kim Kenny, will provide a PowerPoint presentation on how those interested can become a backyard astronomer studying the celestial sky. This program is free to the public and family-friendly.
