Betty Simon Atkins, 80, of Curdsville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 24, 2017. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.
Betty was born in Meherrin on January 9, 1937, to Charles and Anna Simon. She was known for her contagious laugh and love of family and friends. For many years she played the piano at the Evangelical Church in Keysville and Maranatha Baptist Church in Farmville. She was an active member of the churches she attended where she shared her love of music with many people. She loved cooking and was well-known for her ginger snaps and corn pudding. Her devotion, sacrifice, and love for her family was exceeded only by her generosity and care for others.
She is survived by her former husband, Bobby of Kenbridge; her three daughters, Debbie (Mason) Harvey of Loveland, OH, Dolores (Glenn) Lewis of Bracey, and Denise (Lyn) Hill of Curdsville, and her dear sisters-in-law, Doris Simon of Meherrin and Rowena Hess of Victoria; four grandchildren, Stephanie Lewis (Scott Clark) of LaCrosse and Lori Lewis of Bracey, Kate Kemme (Bob) of Loveland OH, Phil Harvey of Madison, WI and Trevor Hill of Curdsville; two great-grandsons, Justin Overholtz of Bracey and Chase Kemme of Loveland, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her two sisters, Louise Koren and Bertha Washer, and an older brother, Charles Simon Jr.
A celebration of her life will be held on March 25 at 11 a.m. at Maranatha Baptist Church, 2204 Tuggle Road, Farmville, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Maranatha Baptist Church, PO Box 572 Farmville, VA 23901.
