Bessie “Elizabeth” Rush left this life for a better one on February 8, 2017. Born September 9, 1933, she was a lifelong resident of Buckingham County.  She loved her God and was happiest serving her church. At Sharon Baptist, she served in many roles including the church clerk, choir director and Sunday school teacher for many years. She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, crocheting, vegetable and flower gardening. But most of all, she loved helping people.

She is mourned by her devoted husband, Gordon; daughters, Hilda Knick and husband, Mark and Joann Newton and husband, Shannon; granddaughter, Holly Vais and husband, Matthew and four great grandchildren, Jacob, Abigail, Nethanel and Lydia Vais. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, John “Jay” and Annie Self and two sisters, Susie Banton and Margaret Self.

During her illness, Elizabeth’s kindness to others came back to her with all help the family received with her care.
