The United Baptist Association and Women’s Missionary and Educational Convention of Central Virginia will sponsor its ninth annual African American Banquet in celebration of the past, present and future achievements that God has allowed them to witness.

“This blessed event will be held on … Feb. 25 at the Frances Redwood Education Center, Route 15, 27294 North James Madison Hwy., New Canton, 3 p.m.,” event organizers said. “The attire for the evening will be African-American outfits or the colors black, red, green and gold.”

The banquet theme, “Honoring Great Achievers,” will spotlight Dr. Basil I. Gooden, who serves as Virginia’s Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry and Ryant Washington, former sheriff and deputy sheriff of Fluvanna County, who also served as a State Trooper and special policy advisor for law enforcement to the state’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.

“The program will consist of a presentation featuring Dr. Dorothy Height, president of the National Council of Negro Women, given by Mrs. Christine Miller-Toney, a 1964 graduate of Carter G. Woodson High School,” organizers said.
