Appomattox Court House National Historical Park and the Appomattox 1865 Foundation are currently recruiting for a VISTA position.

“The purpose of the position is to establish and expand community partnerships to provide opportunities for the public and young people to learn about park stories and engage in programs both in the park and through outreach,” park officials said. “Duties of this position include writing grants, meeting with community stakeholders to collect program ideas and promote partnerships, leading park programs and outreach.”

The VISTA will continue to build on past programs to provide outreach to area libraries and schools, conduct nature walks and trail runs, lead service projects in the park and participate in community events such as the Railroad Festival, according to the release. “The VISTA will also work on special projects, including promotion efforts of the Appomattox Tourism Advisory Committee, a Civil War to Civil Rights Archeology Project and an Arts and Heritage Festival hosted by the Park and the Appomattox 1865 Foundation.”
