Longwood University junior guard Kendrick Thompson will miss the remainder of the 2016-17 season after failing to meet academic eligibility requirements, Lancers Head Coach Jayson Gee said Wednesday.

He left the team due to non-disciplinary personal reasons following the Dec. 12 game at George Mason University and did not return to the lineup.

Thompson appeared in Longwood’s first eight games, starting in three of them. He averaged 4.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

“He will use the time away to focus on his obligations off the court,” Gee said. “This is a difficult lesson for Kendrick to learn, but we will support him in his future endeavors.”

The Lancers (6-11, 3-3 Big South), which have been shorthanded due to a rash of injuries and absences, returned to the court Thursday against visiting Radford University, and they visit Charleston Southern University on Saturday at 5 p.m.
