It’s good to be home

After graduating from Longwood University in 2014, I never thought I’d be back as a resident of Farmville.

Recently, however, I was given the opportunity to work for The Farmville Herald. I quickly found an apartment in the area and once again, I get to call this place home.

Ever since I was in the sixth grade I knew I was going to be in the news media. I used to play reporter as a little kid, and as I got older, I loved to pretend to be a sports commentator. When I graduated from high school having scored a perfect 600 on the essay portion of the Standard of Learning test and a 700 out of 800 on essay portion of the SAT, I knew writing was in my future.

While obtaining my degree in Communication Studies, I began submitting articles to my hometown magazine and The Rotunda, where I continued to hone my skills as a writer and reporter.

Even after graduating, I wrote stories covering the Farmville area for the quarterly publication 460 Magazine. Even after leaving the area, I couldn’t stop writing about it. Now to have the opportunity to write about Farmville and the surrounding area is an incredible experience.

I have a fire in me for Longwood University. As a Lancer, I proudly brag to my friends that Longwood is the best school in the country.

The friendly community, atmosphere and Lancer pride are overwhelming. I am very glad to be back to the place I called home for four years and excited to continue to be a part of the Farmville community, this time as a part of the Farmville Newsmedia.
