Due to the inclement weather, the Cumberland County Community Food Bank — a partnership with the Central Virginia Food Bank — will be distributing food to Cumberland County residents (including Cartersville residents) on Monday from 11:30 a.m. until all food is gone. The food bank is located at the old Cumberland County Elementary School cafeteria next door to the gym, located at 1874 Anderson Hwy. You must have already registered to get food or you must see the director Jerry Seal. All food recipients please bring bags.

For further information, contact Seal at (804) 492-4207 or Miles at (804) 492-5806.

Hello this week to our good friend Nell Spain, of Buckingham.

Barry and Linda Miles, of Cumberland, along with Annie May Miles, of Dillwyn, and Pastor Jeff Worley, of Concord, all enjoyed an afternoon lunch and a great time of fellowship at Pino’s Italian Restaurant of Dillwyn on Jan. 11.

Our sympathy is extended to the Ragland family of Wingina. Brenda died Jan. 8.

The annual 2016 after Christmas lunch was held Sunday at the home of James and Virginia Boyles, of Cumberland. A large crowd gathered for a great time of food, fun and fellowship.

Do’s and don’ts of human food for dog: Fish is good for dogs because it’s loaded with vitamins and protein. Salmon and sardines are the best for your dog. Make sure you remove all bones from the fish except for sardines; their bones are safe and contain calcium. The fish should be fully cooked before you give it to your dog, and only give it to them twice a week.
